Sunday’s opening of the LEMURplex was a success! There were a lot of kids who came for the afternoon open house and a good crowd for the evening performances. Joshua Fried did a performance of his Radio Wonderland, Rocio and Mike Reger did a combined dance/video/music performance and there were robot/musical interactions from Roberto and Mauricio.
All in all there was a lot of interest in the space, mostly for classes (starting soonish). Once things are in full swing the momentum will surely build.
I was busy most of the evening mopping up after the HydroBot, but managed to take two somewhat worthy pictures.

LEMUR UNVEILS CUTTING EDGE ROBOTICS AND MUSIC LAB, TEACHING CENTER AND GALLERY
Brooklyn’s first art and technology complex, integrating a teaching
center, performance space, gallery and robotics studio.
The League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots (LEMUR) will unveil its
new headquarters, LEMURplex, a cutting-edge high tech lab for music
and robotics, where artistic expression and technology will join
together.
In two events on Sunday, June 11, 2006, LEMURplex will open its doors
in Brooklyn, N.Y. We will host a Family Open House from 1 p.m. to 4
p.m., and an evening reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The media and
the public are welcome to tour the facility, see LEMUR’s musical
robots in action and learn about classes and other offerings at the
facility.
The 3,000-square-foot complex will feature the latest in
revolutionary technology for electronic art and music. LEMUR’s new
integrated shop will incorporate fabrication, software and
electronics facilities in one location. Once open, LEMURplex will be
uniquely equipped to become a leading international center for art,
technology and robotics.
The new space will be a major learning center for adults and children
interested in the convergence of art and technology. Beginning in
July, LEMURplex will hold classes on a variety of hi-tech subjects,
including robotics (both for children and adults), interactive music
and video software, electronics and computing for artists and much
more. Some of New York’s finest art and technology instructors will
be teaching the classes, and they’ll be on hand for the open house
and reception.
Beginning in the fall, LEMURplex will also host new musical
performances and electronic art gallery shows. The site will be
unique to New York in combining a gallery, performance space and
teaching space in one location.
LEMURplex is located at 461 3rd Ave, between 9th and 10th Streets,
between the four vibrant neighborhoods of Park Slope, Carroll
Gardens, Gowanus and Red Hook.
More information on LEMURplex will be available soon at http://lemurplex.org.
